The Best Beers I Had in September 2025
In September, I visited some of the breweries that are closest to home for me to try my old favorites and discover some new ones. I also took a little trip to Colorado Springs and enjoyed a delicious ESB.

Malicious Code
Cerebral Brewing
American IPA, 6.5% ABV
As usual, Cerebral created another excellent IPA, this time incorporating Superdelic, Galaxy, Citra, Waimea and Amarillo hops. The hop combination leads to an explosion of sweetness reminiscent of Nerds or grape Jolly Rancher mixed with passionfruit. It still retains the bitterness you’d expect from a West Coast IPA that lingers a little on your tongue.

Indigo Effect
Cerebral Brewing
Blue Corn Lager, 4.5% ABV
I typically drink IPAs at Cerebral, but everything they make is wonderful, so I gave this one a try and I’m glad I did. It’s a really crisp lager with a noticeable blue corn flavor that tastes fresh and earthy.

Helles Lager
Copper Kettle Brewing Co.
Helles Lager, 4.8% ABV
Copper Kettle is one of the breweries I visit most regularly and this is the beer I drink the most often. It’s hard to consistently brew outstanding lagers, but the Helles at Copper Kettle is always good — crisp, refreshing and light. Just as it should be. It seemed even more delicious during their Oktoberfest celebration.

Extra Special Bee
Red Leg Brewing Company
Extra Special Bitter (ESB), 5.9% ABV
If you’re in Colorado Springs, I highly recommend spending some time at the Golden Bee, the pub at the Broadmoor. This ESB is one of their house beers and it’s a great example of the style — a balanced pale ale with caramel, nutty and biscuit undertones.

Superpower IPA
Comrade Brewing
American IPA, 7.3% ABV
This is one of my favorite beers, period. It’s an impeccable West Coast IPA that is deserving of all its many accolades. It also happens to be brewed down the street from my house, which is a nice bonus. It has huge pine and grapefruit hop aroma with flavors of citrus and a balanced bitterness with a light malt character.
