The Best Beers I Had in July 2026
I was in Chicago for a long weekend in July and got to visit a bunch of breweries I’d never tried before. A few of them really stood out, and I’ve featured my favorite beers in this post. The coolest experience had to be the tasting menu with beer pairings at Moody Tongue. It’s a must-try for beer and food lovers in Chicago.

Pilsner
Suncatcher Brewing
German Pilsner, 5.1% ABV
When a Pilsner is done exceptionally well, I instantly admire the brewers and brewery that produced it. This was the case at Suncatcher, which has only been around a few years, but was co-founded by one of the minds behind Half Acre Brewing, one of the best breweries in Chicago. If I lived in the neighborhood, you’d frequently find me at Suncatcher, sipping this outstanding Pilsner. They use Pilsner and Vienna malt from Indiana to pair with Tettnanger and Hersbrucker hops. The result is a slightly sweet, beautifully-floral, crisp and refreshing beer.

Creepies
is/was brewing
Saison, 5.1% ABV
is/was was one of the biggest surprises of the trip. I didn’t know what to expect and I was blown away by the vibes, an incredible bartender and outstanding beer. Creepies was my favorite beer that I tried. The elderflower and bitter orange accent the base flavors of the Saison so beautifully. The result is a complex-yet-refreshing, honey-like triumph. It’s a beer I’d like to revisit again as soon as possible.

Aperitif Pilsner
Moody Tongue
German Pilsner, 5% ABV
I enjoyed every single bite and sip at Moody Tongue. It was incredible experience that I hope to repeat the next time I’m in Chicago. I tend to judge breweries off of their light lagers because there are no strong flavors and aromas for imperfections to hide behind. This Pilsner was great and a perfect pairing for the bread and cheese course it was paired with.
